We have a protected reading block at Flatwoods that begins at 8:00 and lasts until 10:00.  During this time, we are instructing students in a variety of settings including whole group, small group, and through reading center activities.  Please consider this as possibly the most important part of the school day and remember to support it by scheduling appointments outside of this time.  Also be sure your child is present at school before 8:00 so that he or she can be in the classroom and ready to learn when instruction begins. 

We are using the Harcourt Storytown reading program again this year as the foundation of our reading program.  This series follows a six day lesson schedule, which means that weekly assessments will not always fall on Fridays.  If you have questions about our reading program please contact your child's teacher.  We expect to see more great progress in our students this year and we hope you'll help this happen by reading with your children at home every night.
